SEASONS OF THE HEART

Our true hearts are often forced to confront heartbreak, betrayal and forgiveness. In this issue we explore why we must undergo these experiences and how we can surface from them inspired. These paragraphs have been extracted from Dr Pee Tek Chan's book "Sacred Surfer, Eternal Wave", chapter two.

Breaking of Hearts
As part of the Divine dance of life, life's waves manifest from this sacred source. It may seem as though our daily waves of life's experiences are designed to break our hearts, our dreams. This becomes evident as we grow older, as the dreams that we were chasing in our earlier life begin to lose their gloss, The falseness, the pretence and mind-made dreams begin to breakup or shatter. It seems when all falseness is broken and taken apart by life's waves, only the truth remains.

Our true heart can be imagined as wrapped up and covered over by hundreds of layers of 'false hearts'.. To reach the true heart, all these layers of falseness have to be taken apart. Practising a life of selfless service, kindness and compassion, can soften or peel away these layers. Life events, personal or global, are constantly impacting on these 'false layers' of 'belief'. 

Betrayal
It seems all of us need to experience betrayal in our lives. Betrayal can be a most painful experience, yet it can also be the most freeing, empowering experience of release and freedom. You are released from another layer of illusion by your heart breaking through betrayal. It is only your false dreams that are betrayed. Your true self can never be betrayed. Letting go of false ideals is a wonderfully uplifting experience. Judas' betrayal allowed Jesus to demonstrate the power of forgiveness. This is an example of the power of betrayal in revealing the enduring response from love. 

Forgiveness
The act of forgiving allows you to get on with life, to get back on your surfboard to surf the next wave. It is impossible to imagine a surfer not forgiving the last few waves just because he may be dumped or hurt. He will forever be floundering in the sea of life while preoccupied with waves that have been and gone. 

True heart
Leave your broken heart in the water, for your true heart is still with you. It is only your false heart that is getting drowned in the ocean of life. Do not weep for this. Look up and catch the next wave that is looming. Steady yourself on your surfboard for it may be the ride of your life. 

The only sensible choice is to continue to surf life's waves earnestly and align with the mysterious flow of life. The effort is in constantly surrendering to life's waves and forces of nature.
