TOOLS TO AN EMOTIONAL NEW YOU

1/7/2014

Sometimes it takes an epiphany like LIFE IS MEANT TO BE HAPPY that starts us off on a journey to break our cycle of destructive thinking patterns stemming from subconscious fears such as abandonment which lead to recurrent destructive thoughts of insecurity and neediness. Stephanie Ngu shares tools and insights how.

Start by paying attention and being aware of our emotions.
This is done by observing how you feel (without any judgment) and the associated thoughts that arise. This practice is commonly known as emotional detachment. Through building our awareness, we are then able to make conscious decisions to proceed or discard each and every of our thought and in turn will impact directly on our emotions.

Note that this is a slow difficult process and may be hard to grasp at the beginning as it requires a lot of mental will to continue this practice persistently for a long period of time to gain some results.

The key towards feeling at peace is acceptance - a full acceptance of what you think and how you feel towards a person or a situation. By acknowledging and accepting your thoughts and emotions, the tension between your mind and heart will just dissolve away. This process is what we termed as allowing.

Through allowing, suppressed feelings are being released and you return back to the peaceful state, that has always reside within you. To enhance the effect of this allowing process, you can start off by placing one of your palms on your heart centre (i.e. heart chakra, located in middle of your chest). This is followed by a mental or verbal acknowledgement and subsequently, accepting of your thoughts and emotions.

meditation for releasing emotions

Picture
  1. Locate a quiet corner in your space prior to starting this exercise.
  2. Set your intention in your heart to release pent up emotions and tension.
  3. Take a deep breath in. Breathe in (through your nose) all the way to your stomach.
  4. Hold your breath for 5 seconds and breathe out slowly through your mouth (you may make a sigh sound if you wish).
  5. As you slowly exhale, your body will start to wind down and you will experience relaxation.
  6. Continue the breathing exercise by focusing on the emotions that are stuck within your body.
  7. Feel an expansion of white light on the blockages. NOTE: You may feel a surge of emotions coming out of you during this exercise. Allow them to surface, without reacting. Be an observer of your emotions.

emofree technique or eft

Successfully making its rounds through healing circles around the world, EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique, is an emotional version of acupuncture, except needles are not being used. This unorthodox healing technique claims to release trapped emotions and belief system through tapping certain meridian points on the body. This speedy method works wonders on overwhelming emotions during crucial moments. More explanation and demonstration on EFT can be found on http://www.emofree.com

don't forget exercise

Part of the other reason why exercise is good for you and often forgotten as the first line of defense against depression. Exercise releases stagnant energy in the body and generates endorphins (a type of brain chemicals) to boost your mood. Do any form of exercise that you enjoy, may it dancing, swimming or even singing.

fake (laughter) till you make it

Our bodies are not built to differentiate between a fake laughter and a real one. By faking a laughter, it releases endorphins as well, causing similar effect to exercising.

NOTE: If you feel that your emotions are overwhelming to the point that you are paralyzed from your day-to-day activities. Please seek professional help or alternative healing.
